McLaren Lake is located 5 miles northwest of Hesperia, MI. Named after Albert McLaren, a settler who came to the area in 1858, McLaren Lake has a beautiful shoreline of 4.95 miles. The lake is fed by the north branch of the White River providing excellent wildlife and fishing. This 271 acre body of water reaches depths of 70 feet and has two sunken islands, offering ReelSuite fishing for many species including walleye, perch, trout, northern pike, large and smallmouth bass, black crappie, and other panfish. It is an all sports lake with recreational activities including boating, swimming, waterskiing, tubing, kneeboarding, wakeboarding, and sailing for 12ft to 14ft vessels.

The public launch is paved cement and allows for boats up to 20ft. The launch and the lake are policed by the DNR and the local Sheriff’s Department. In the winter months, the entire lake freezes over, offering snowmobiling, ice fishing, ice skating, and even an occasional golf outing on the ice.
